Clinical course and predictors of the risk of ventilation-associated tracheobronchitis
Abstract
Ventilator-associated infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract are one of the most common
complications of prolonged mechanical ventilation in intensive care units. There is an urgent need to reach
a consensus in the diagnosis of ventilator-associated tracheobronchitis. The manuscript provides a review
of the diagnostic criteria and risk factors for the development of ventilator-associated tracheobronchitis,
which are analyzed in order to optimize the methods of intensive care for patients on prolonged mechanical ventilation.
