Acute calculous cholecystitis surgery in elderly and senile patients
Abstract
The modern views on the surgical treatment of the acute calculous cholecystitis in elderly and senile patients are studied in the literature review. It has been shown that cholecystectomy is currently the only
definitive method of acute calculous cholecystitis treatment; it is characterized by lower frequency of biliary complications in the distant postoperative period, shorter total duration of hospital treatment and
lower total cost of treatment in comparison with other treatment strategies. In acute cholecystitis urgent
laparoscopic cholecystectomy is applicable to elderly and senile patients and elderly age must not be a
contraindication for this intervention.
