Abstract
We examined 26 children aged 4 to 14 years with multiple organ failure syndrome (MODS). The main
organ systems involved in MODS were the respiratory, cardiovascular, and central nervous systems.
Acute respiratory failure in combination with acute heart failure of the 2nd degree was observed in all
26 (100%) children, respiratory, cardiovascular failure in combination with cerebral insufficiency in
19 (73%) children, respiratory, cardiovascular failure in combination with toxic damage to the liver,
kidneys and intestinal failure syndrome in 7 (27%) cases. The main criteria for respiratory failure are a
significant increase in respiratory rate and a decrease in saturation.
