Summary: The literature review examined modern views on diagnosis, conservative and
surgical treatment of children with intussusception. Many children with intussusception do
not present with the full triad of symptoms and a high level of clinical suspicion is warranted.
Non-invasive radiotherapy remains the first line of treatment; surgery is necessary if these
methods fail and if complications of intussusception occur. In modern surgical treatment of
intussusception in children, pediatric surgeons in most cases use a minimally invasive approach
through laparoscopy. Laparoscopy allows you to make an accurate diagnosis, as well as eliminate
intussusception (disinvagination), assess the viability of the intestine and, if necessary, perform
intestinal resection with anastomosis.
