Abstract

A case of successful surgical treatment of a 21-year-old patient with a heart injury is presented. After
X-ray, ultrasound and laboratory examinations, the patient was diagnosed with a preliminary diagnosis:
«Penetrating stab wound of the chest on the left. Heart injury Thoracoabdominal injury? Complication:
Hemopericardium. Tamponade of the heart? Posttraumatic and posthemorrhagic shock 2–3 art.». thoracotomy on the left, pericardiotomy, suturing of the wound of the left ventricle of the heart was performed.
Due to a mediastinal hematoma with a continuation in the left dome of the diaphragm, it was not possible
to determine damage to the latter from the pleural cavity. Therefore, in order to exclude thoracoabdominal injury, diagnostic laparoscopy was performed and damage to the abdominal organs was excluded. The
patient was discharged in a satisfactory condition on the 7th day from the moment of admission. Examined after 4 months – the patient’s condition is satisfactory, there are no complaints.
